ice climbing in Norway

Hey! Here is a great waterfall which is climed by some skilled waterfall-climbers from time to time. It's called Vettisfossen and is situated in the national park Jotunheimen in the western part of Norway, near the famous Sognefjorden.

The foss' height is about 275 meters.

I`m from the area where Vettisfossen mentioned above is situated, and I will not recommend it. Only three people have made it to the top, which is both cool and great, but it is a dangerous and difficult climbe. The waterfall it self is actually only climbable every tenth year due to the weatherconditions. BUT there are other great waterfalls in the same area, where the conditions are normally great every winter - Hjellefossen, Avdalsfossen and Eldegardsfossen. The first two you will find along the road leading to Vettisfossen. The last one is situated up the hillside along the road from Øvre Årdal to Årdalstangen. PS! If you decide not to go to Årdal at all, Rjukan in the southeast-Norway is a good location for ice-climbing.

The areas Hemsedal and Valdres each has several excellent waterfalls for ice-climbing.

Vettisfossen, as mentioned is a little bit too extreme and unpredictable because of weatherconditions.

Here, direct in our area. Hyllefossen is a good vaterfall for ice climbing. The ones in Hemsedal and Vang though are higher.
