Hi all. Just a quick question about camping near huts. I see that this is allowed (for a small fee) so I was wondering if you can use the hut facilities ?? like the drying room or toilets etc. Many thanks,

The general rules for camping with tent in the low lands in Norway is that you can stay on the same place for 48 hours. You cannot stay with tent on cultivated farm land or in fenced areas used as grazing land without owners permission.

In the mountains and in areas without houses or farms you can stay more than 48 hours.

In populated areas the tent shall be at least 150 meters from the nearest house or cabin.

When you leave, remove all traces and, if possible, leave the campground so it does not show that you've been there. (There is a new law regarding use of open fire.)

If you put up a tent near to a T-cabin I think you must follow the same 150 meter rule. If you put up your tent closer than 150 meters and want to use some of the facilities on the cabin, you must sign in and pay the same price as if you stay in the cabin. There is also a price for day visit if you do more than just enter the cabin for å quick look. (I think the best thing to do is to contact Turistforeningen and ask.)

Some of the T-cabins owned by Den Norske Turistforening are locked and to visit these cabins you must buy a key from Den Norske Turistforening.

The cabins owned by Stavanger Turistforening are open all year.

there is a map showing the cabins owned by Stavanger Turistforening. This map is available on the STF web sites.

P.s.

As a member of Stavanger Turistforening you can fish free in lakes, rivers and creeks along their T-marked tracks. Not in rivers containing anadromous salmonids, salmon and sea trout.

If you want to camp on the site of Gjendebu in Jotunheimen, make sure you keep things of value with you as the site clearly attracts kleptomaniacs of all sorts. Also, don´t get on the wrong side of the landlord...
