Hiking with tent on Hardangervidda

Hey,

This summer a would like to hike in the South of Norway. We are planning a tour of one week from hut to hut in the surroundings of Haukeliseter. Afterwords we would like to make a small tour with a tent and we would like to walk outside the paths. I was thinking of the area between Haukeliseter and Mogen. We are looking for a place where we can search our own path for three days. This will be our first time, so we are looking for an area with good terain and where we will not get lost easy. Is This a good place or should we Go somewhere else in the South of Norway?

We are a family of three (our son is 9 years). We have experience in making multiday walks, for example last year we walked Kungsleden. Walking 15 km on a day (on a path) is fine.

I hope you can give us advise.

Have no suggestions, but you can look at the webside ut.no (out.no). This year it's record amount of snow in the mountains. You should really chek out the conditions before you go. Late summer is better, this year, I think (if at all).

I'm planning to go in the same area myself this year, and its a great place normaly

Easy way to se how much snow is inn the area is by using webcam like:

You can also look at senorge.no to check snow in the mountains. It gives a good idea.

South / west Hardangervidda has the most snow . Secure areas to escape the worst snowfall is to start your trip from Tinnhylén ( Rv 7 ) slightly further north . Flat terrain, beautiful areas and many huts to walk between. No problems to find your own ways away from the paths either and the fishing is always good But I'd probably would wait until mid-July or later because of the snow.

The area around Hardangerjøkulen from Finse station is also a good place to walk. More hilly terrain than from Tinnhylen, but if you want to travel in july I would recommend starting point Tinnhylen (PS! I'm not so familiar with southern Hardangervidda/Mogen).

The area between Haukeliseter and Mogen is fantastic terrain, and there are very few people. Because of much snow in the western parts this year, I would have started at Mogen.
