Snow on Stetind?

Afternoon Everyone,

This Friday, myself & friends are flying to Harstad-Narvik with a view to climbing the summit of Stetind.

What are snow conditions like at the moment? I've looked at http://met.no/snokart/ and find that the map is now nearly 2 weeks old. I see that Arctic Norway is has now been warm for quite some time now.

Has enough snow melted such that I won't need to bring my ice axe for the mountain summits? Or is it still a good idea to bring my axe for this journey?

Regards

Anthony Dyer

Haven't been there, but I don't belive that you would need an ice axe on Stetind at this time of year. Most of the snow in the mountains have melted, but the lower areas are probably still quite wet from the melted/melting snow. But this will not cause any trouble apart from you getting a little wet on you feet

It even looks like the weather is going to be really nice this weekend, so you'll hopefully have a very nice climb

Good luck, and enjoy :D

I was on Stetind last weekend. You can leave your ice axe at home. We did the aproaches to the West Wall and the South Pillar, and returned down the normal route, in running shoes.
