Hello,

we are a group of austrians who would like to do some backcountry-skiing in norway next spring.

is there anyone who can give us some information, preferable in english, about areas, conditions...

we have some information about backcountryskiing in the region of alesund in combination with a boat-as far as i know rather expensive. we have no further informations and contacts.

what we are looking for is walking/hiking up with skies and gliding down...we don`t focus any special region.

inputs welcome!

Hello Robert!

I can recommend the Lyngen-area, as it is an area being both beautiful and having the possibility to give you good skiing trips! Lyngen lies 1-2 hour drive from the town of Tromsø. The mountains here falls right into the fjord underneath it, and you can find both difficult and not that difficult slopes. The mountains are from 900-1800 m above sea level, and you start at 0 m. The area is perfect for walking both short and long trips.

Since you want trips that give you good quality downhill-rides, I asume you have the skills needed for being in avalanche terrain. Because of the climate (and the risk for avalanches) the best time for a visit is in spring/early spring (March-June), but of course depending on the snow conditions. The later you visit, the more light and sun you'll get :D

I can recommend the web-site: www.msmg.org (in english :)) for information, and the guides here know the Lyngen-area very good and I'm sure they can answer any question concerning this area. They are nice fellows, and they have trips you can join if you want to.

You're very welcome!

Regards Lena
